Sky Sight Inc. is honoured to have received the Gold Award and a grant of $50,000 at the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Aeronautics (WISA) Sustainable Future Competition during WISA's Annual General Meeting on June 12, 2023. Sky Sight was recognized for their project, "A 3D Digital Twin Solution for the AEC Industry Leveraging Multi-Sensor RPAS Data," which offers an innovative approach for small and medium-sized firms in the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry, enhancing project efficiency through advanced data capture and collaboration tools.
This solution supports social, environmental, and economic sustainability by streamlining project collaboration among stakeholders, leading to improved workflows, minimized costs and enhancing worker safety and reducing hazards at construction sites. The project involves data capture, utilizing advanced 3D scanners and RPAS equipped with RGB, LiDAR, and thermal sensors and advanced processing to transform this data into digital twin 3D models, BIMs, CAD plans, and comprehensive reports. These valuable insights are efficiently managed and shared using various platforms to optimize project documentation, construction monitoring, inspections, and analysis.
The Government of Canada funded this competition through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
"The Government of Canada congratulates the winning companies," said the Honorable Filomena Tassi, the minister responsible for FedDev Ontario. "With the support of WISA, these innovative technologies and approaches will make a significant impact on the aerospace industry. Our government is behind you as you find the next generation of solutions to everyday problems and reach your full potential."
Dr. Suzanne Kearns, founding director of WISA, emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in achieving aviation sustainability, stating,
"Cross-sector collaboration is key to achieving aviation sustainability. The Sustainable Future Competition, supported by government, industry, and academia, showcases the power of working together to advance innovation and sustainable practices."
The Sustainable Future Competition advances WISA's mission to foster an ecosystem in southern Ontario that supports innovative and sustainable practices within the aviation and aerospace industries. By recognizing and funding these game-changing projects, WISA is propelling air transportation towards a more sustainable future.
